It was another unusually warm day with rain at the end. I have been busy trying to get the house organized, doing some wood burnings.
Our shop will be open with pottery for sale until christmas. Although the last firing failed, we have some good pots here, and Paul says he will find some more seconds to put out for the bargain hunters out there.
There is a plan in the works to use the kiln we have one more time. I won't go into detail right now, but I will if it works! It really feels like I've spent my whole life waiting for better kilns to be built....These three kiln failures have been hard on both of us. I have branched out however, with my extra jobs, and haven't been in the loop much where the shop is concerned. The sculptures I made in the summer of 2005 were in this last kiln, it was their second or third attempt at firing. I had so many special orders, and it is my unpleasant job to tell people they will have to wait for their special orders one more time, crossing my fingers that they don't give up on us. These are the times when most people would give up. We have made our living with the pottery for 24 years.( our anniversary was this month) and it's never been easy. During the rockhard years there was a steady income, but what we traded in those years was togetherness as a family, and In my opinion we traded quality of the work for quantity. The demands of the company took away from any creativity that I could put into my work. When Paul and I set out again on our own in 2003, we knew we were jumping into the unknown. We knew there would be a transitional period, and we hoped that our new approach would provide us the freedom to grow creatively and still sell at a bit more limited basis. I have reached many of my goals creatively, and I am planning on getting an electric kiln to fire my sculptures. I am also putting my wood burnings at the cafe, they will match the decor and the other crafts that are in there. Well here come the Holidays,! It always sneaks up on me!! Later then
