"Preening Hen"         by DS Morris
Hand built using coil and pinch methods, carved.
Made of white earthenware, mason stains, commercial
glaze. Fired to cone 05 in electric kiln October 2006.  It
is signed and dated DS Morris 2005 (year it was
created)
This piece was shown at the Alumni Art Show at
Winona State University fall of 2006.

This is my latest sculpture  I waited a long time to get
it fired!  Mainly because I sculpted it in earthenware.
This is a new direction for me, and there is more
coming.  D
This life sized hen is is another one of
a kind sculpture by DS Morris.  every
feather and every detail is carved in as
the clay progresses in it's drying
stages.  It was fired in the wood kiln
April 2007.  This sculpture is offered
for sale in my
Etsy Shop
This cat is my first sculpture that I've ever used the Raku firing process. This
cat is one of about three that I've completed in my working career. I do love
the graceful curves in their anatomy.   The raw state of the clay when using
RAKU  enhances the sculptural details in the form.  I plan on doing this more
often .
All of my sculptures at this point in time are hand built using coil and pinch
techniques.  They are hollow  and around 3/4 to 1 inch in thickness.   Each
one is signed and dated with the year it was made.  A certificate of
authenticity accompanies each piece.
To the right and below is
another life sized hen. This
running girl has carved and
incised feathers, with a shiny
glazed back, and wood ash
effect under the wings.   She
is on a base of carved green
grass.

sized rabbit sculpture.
